a librarian in Hebei province, has spent 30 years preserving antiquarian books in Hebei Library and working to raise public awareness of the practice so that it can be passed down to future generations.

BAI ZHIYONG,
a senior mapping expert for China Railway No 1 Engineering Group, has spent the past 18 years using precision mapping techniques in the development of China's bullet trains, subways, highways and tunnels. Of China's 22,000-kilometer high-speed rail network, over 10 percent was mapped by Bai and his team.
