Lowdown on IRONMAN 70.3

China Daily | Updated: 2017-10-13 08:04

IRONMAN70.3, also known as a Half IRONMAN, is a series of long-distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC). The 70.3 refers to the race's total distance in miles (1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and 13.1-mile run - each being half the distance of an IRONMAN triathlon).

In the US alone, over 480,000 people participate in triathlon, with over 4,400 races held each year.

Dalian Wanda Group acquired the WTC for $650 million in 2015, representing another major investment in the sports sector for the Chinese group following its acquisitions of Infront Sports & Media and La Liga soccer giant Atletico Madrid.
