Province says it will cut pollution

Shanxi province has joined other regions in northern China in taking steps to mitigate air pollution during the fall and winter. The coal-rich province will cut the levels of PM2.5(particulate matter with a diameter of 2.5 micrometers or less) and sulfur dioxide by 40 percent from October to March, the provincial Environmental Protection Bureau said on Wednesday. Local governments in northern China are taking harsher measures to fight air pollution, with more residents increasingly worried about their health.
