British cuisine is rarely lauded but old-fashioned dishes, such as syrup pudding and scotch eggs, have exploded in popularity in the last decade. Here, Diana Henry serves up Britain on a plate, choosing ten dishes that have become part of our way of life.
Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding
The quintessential British Sunday lunch - roast beef, horseradish cream, fluffy Yorkshire puddings and all the trimmings (vegetables, roast potatoes and gravy) - is, well, just Britain, on a plate. The beef should be rare, the horseradish (ideally) fresh and the Yorkshire puddings as light as clouds.
