National defense patent system online

The intellectual property rights information system for the national defense industry went online on Monday. It includes documentation for all of China's military patents filed since the national defense patent system was established in 1985, as well as a database of military-use software copyrights. It will release demands for patent commercialization and patent analysis reports in some major sectors.

Provincial awards top 7 million yuan in 2016
The provincial IP administration last week issued patent awards totaling 7.58 million yuan ($1.16 million) to the owners of 254 patents granted last year, and to 25 local companies with 50 patent applications or 20 invention patent applications each last year. The provincial government has offered 16.3 million yuan since the provincial patent award was launched in 2014. In the first seven months this year, Qinghai individuals and organizations filed 1,723 patent applications, up 11 percent year-on-year.

High-tech zone creates navigation alliance

An IP alliance for the Beidou navigation and remote sensing industry was established in the Zhengzhou high-tech zone. The alliance aims to integrate the innovation resources of companies, universities and research institutions to meet the demands of the industry. It will build an IP-sharing mechanism among its members, facilitate commercialization of their achievements and nurture a number of industry leaders with improved abilities for IP creation, use and management.

Dalian customs crack mail order fakes case
Dalian customs announced that it has investigated its largest postal intellectual property infringement case in recent years. The office checked 1,100 parcels sent by the same person to more than 30 countries and found 635 parcels containing counterfeit products. These included sports shoes, clothes and scarves bearing famous trademarks such as Nike, Adidas, Puma and Gucci.

Copyright fair posts record for deals signed
Copyright contracts with a total value of 135 million yuan ($20.6 million) were signed at the third Hangzhou Copyright Cooperation and Trade Fair on Sept 24, a record high. As part of the 2017 Hangzhou Cultural and Creative Industry Expo, the fair attracted publishers, comic and game developers, investors and financial institutions.
