8 arrested for poaching bears

Eight people have been arrested on suspicion of killing black bears, police in Yanbian said on Tuesday. Poachers are believed to have killed at least three bears since June. On July 23, police received reports of a bear carcass with its paws missing that had been found on Xinkai Forest Farm. An examination found the bear had been killed by a gunshot to the head about a month earlier. After a two-month investigation, police arrested seven suspects. Another turned himself in this month. A dozen bear paws and three bear gallbladders were seized. The bear parts are believed by some to have strong medicinal properties, and they command a high price on the black market.
