Capital considers banning fireworks

The Beijing municipal legislature is discussing amending its fireworks management regulations to ban fireworks all year in light of the city's heavy air pollution and the health problems caused by fireworks during festivals. A draft amendment to Beijing municipal fireworks safety and management regulations was moved on Thursday to the Standing Committee of the Beijing municipal People's Congress for deliberation. Under the draft, setting off fireworks would be banned anywhere inside the city's Fifth Ring Road.
