Walkathon raises nutrition funds

More than 2,800 citizens went hiking around the Great Wall near Beijing in September at a charitable events sponsored by China's e-commerce platform Suning.com. Funds of up to 5.1 million yuan ($780,000) were raised to help improve nutrition and send daily necessities for poor children in mountainous areas of China. Participants needed to finish walking for 50 or 100 kilometers in teams and introduce the activity to their friends. The champion of 100 km took 19 hours and 52 minutes to reach the finish line. More than 750 teams from 26 provinces and other countries, including the United States and New Zealand, attended the activity.
