9 trapped workers confirmed alive

Nine construction workers trapped in a collapsed railway tunnel in Yunnan province were confirmed alive on Friday, local authorities said. The tunnel in the Xishuangbanna Dai autonomous prefecture they were working on collapsed at about 10:20 am on Thursday. After digging a small hole through the rocks, rescuers made contact with the workers with a thin pipe and confirmed that the workers were all alive, the publicity department of the prefecture government said.
