Alert issued for Typhoon Talim

The National Meteorological Center issued a blue alert on Tuesday for Typhoon Talim, which could intensify into a super typhoon and is likely to hit China's southeastern coast on Thursday or Friday. At 5 am on Tuesday, the eye of Talim - the 18th typhoon this year in the region - was above the northwestern Pacific Ocean, 1,040 kilometers southeast of Taiwan's Yilan county. It packed winds up to 118 kilometers per hour. The center forecast that the storm would move northwest at a speed of 25 to 30 kilometers per hour toward the coast of Zhejiang and Fujian provinces.
