Dual-credit scheme requires carmakers' efforts

China will set a deadline for automakers to end sales of petrol-powered vehicles and introduce a dual-credit scheme very soon to accelerate efforts to develop new energy vehicles, a senior official has reiterated. Xin Guobin, vice-minister of industry and information technology, said at a forum on Saturday in Tianjin that the related ministries have joined hands in establishing the initiatives. He also called for automakers to follow the assessment requirements and develop more new energy vehicles, besides making efforts in boosting the fuel economy of combustion-engine cars.

1.8m Volkswagen vehicles awaiting recalls for safety

The German brand will begin recalling 1,818,340 vehicles due to a safety hazard on Dec 25, replacing the faulty parts free of charge. China's consumer quality authority announced last week that the faulty fuel pump control units could cause overheating and failure, resulting in engine failures. The affected models are the locally made Magotan, CC and new Passat, as well as the imported Magotan wagon and CC made between 2007 and 2015. Volkswagen China, FAW-Volkswagen and SAIC-Volkswagen filed the recall plan following the defect inspection by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

Nissan launches new Leaf with top technologies

Nissan introduced the latest generation of the zero-emission electric Leaf model last week, combining greater range with a dynamic new design and advanced technologies. The new model offers a range of 400 kilometers, allowing drivers to enjoy a safer and longer journey. The new e-powertrain gives the new Nissan Leaf 110 kilowatts of power output and 320 Newton meters of torque, improving acceleration and driver enjoyment.
