Official gets life for taking bribes

A former senior official in Shenzhen was sentenced to life in prison for accepting bribes, a court in Guangzhou ruled on Monday. Jiang Zunyu, 60, former chief of the political and legal affairs commission of the Shenzhen Committee of the Communist Party of China, abused his power to seek profits for others in projects including housing developments. In return he accepted bribes of more than 68.5 million yuan ($10.3 million) between 1996 and 2014, according to the Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court. The investigation by disciplinary authorities began in October 2014.
