Councilor calls for dialogue with US

Political dialogue is the only way to solve the issue of Afghanistan, State Councilor Yang Jiechi told Rex Tillerson, secretary of state of the United States, over the phone on Wednesday. China is willing to maintain communication and coordination with the US on the issue, Yang said. US President Donald Trump unveiled his policy for Afghanistan on Monday, committing to an open-ended conflict there and singling out Pakistan for harboring Afghan Taliban insurgents and other militants.
