First Belt and Road Book Fair takes place, attracts crowds
The first Belt and Road Book Fair was held last week in Jinan, attracting nearly 100 publishers from 35 countries and regions overseas, including 58 from the regions involved in the initiative. More than 240 contracts for book copyrights were signed at the fair, about 220 of which were for exporting Chinese books. A translation-themed forum was held during the fair, attracting more than 120 delegates from China and abroad.

Qingdao outlines 1 billion yuan trade target for 2020
Qingdao will have an annual intellectual property trade volume of 1 billion yuan ($150 million) by 2020, according to the city's recently unveiled plan to build a national level IP powerhouse. The plan mandates that the invention patent ownership per 10,000 local residents will reach 25 by that time, with at least 100 international patent applications annually and 100,000 valid trademarks. More than 300 local companies will have IP management organizations.

Science, tech expo to show civilian-military products
The fifth China (Mianyang) Science & Technology City International High-Tech Expo is to be held from Sept 7 to 9, where at least 500 patented innovation achievements are due to be released. The event will cover 39,000 square meters of exhibition space and will highlight civilian-military integrated technologies and applications. It will attract global high-tech giants including 36 Fortune 500 companies. A series of forums will also be held during the expo.

South Korean cosmetics counterfeiters uncovered
Xuzhou police recently announced they have investigated a cross-border group that made and sold counterfeit South Korean brand cosmetics online. They launched the investigation in early 2016 and raided 16 warehouses, finding 23 metric tons of counterfeit Innisfree and Etude House cosmetics. The police estimated the potential value of the illegal items at 200 million yuan ($30 million), and that 1.3 million online shoppers purchased the products.

Water, hydrogen fueled tech creates 500 km-range truck
Jinhua-based China Youngman Automobile Group recently announced that it has developed water hydrogen fuel technology that allows a truck to consume water only and have a range of 500 kilometers. Pang Qingnian, chairman of the company, said the key to the technology is a special catalyst they have developed to produce hydrogen from water. The hydrogen then generates electricity to drive the vehicle.
