Society: Trauma of Japanese WWII germ warfare still felt

During World War II, the Japanese army spread deadly bacteria in China, killing many civilians and leaving others with diseases for the rest of their lives. More than 15,000 people in Changde, Hunan province, were killed by bacteria spread by Japanese troops in 1941. In Lishui and Yiwu, Zhejiang province, Japanese troops spread plague, typhoid and anthrax bacteria, causing what is known as "rotten leg disease" among locals. Many victims did not know the cause of their problems until recent years.
