This Day, That Year

China Daily | Updated: 2017-08-09 08:19

Item from Aug 9, 1993, in China Daily: When the first rugby team in China started up at Beijing Agricultural University in 1990, the team had to split into two groups to play, because they were not enough players from outside to form an opposing side. There are now 19 teams, mainly in universities, colleges and middle schools.

But it appears the sport still has long way to go.

Rugby has enjoyed a surge of popularity in China, however, it is still not a game well-known to the public.
