VW top seller in China
Volkswagen was the best-selling car brand in China in the first half of the year, with 1.4 million vehicles sold in the world's largest car market. New crossover and SUV models, such as the C-TREK and Teramont, have been well received by Chinese customers, while first-half deliveries of the Tiguan family rose 39 percent and, among sedans, Magotan sales were up 33 percent. Together with its Audi, Porsche and Skoda brands, the German car giant delivered nearly 1.83 million cars in the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong in the same period.
Jaguar Land Rover opens new Jiangsu plant
Jaguar Land Rover opened an engine plant in Changshu, Jiangsu province on Friday, demonstrating its commitment to its largest market worldwide. The plant, which has an initial output capacity of 130,000 engines a year, will manufacture the Ingenium 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine for future models to be produced at Chery Jaguar Land Rover. The Chinese joint venture is currently producing the Range Rover Evoque, Land Rover Discovery Sport and, exclusively for the Chinese market, the Jaguar XFL. Pan Qing, head of JLR China, said the new engine plant will support the automaker's strategy to become a more competitive global business by strengthening its international manufacturing capabilities.
