Auto industry integrates resources
Twenty members of the Society of Automotive Engineers of China, including automakers, auto component manufacturers, research institutions and universities, are planning to establish a branch for intellectual property under the society. The new organization will integrate the members' resources, help them to improve the capabilities of IP management and use, and build an auto industry patent pool.

Software copyrights up 39.5%
There were more than 400,000 software copyright registrations in China last year, increasing 39.5 percent from a year earlier, according to a report unveiled by the Copyright Protection Center of China on Monday. Guangdong topped all provincial-level regions in the number of registrations. There were 116,844 copyright owners, most of them companies, that registered software copyright last year, up nearly 31 percent from 2015.

Counterfeit products destroyed
A batch of counterfeit and substandard products was destroyed in Luancheng district in Shijiazhuang. It included counterfeit soaps, laundry detergent and medicines and substandard food. The products were recently seized in the local food, oil, farming supplies and logistics markets. Law enforcement oficials also organized a promotion campaign, distributing leaflets to people and displaying genuine and fake goods.

Trademark imitators seized
After about four months of investigation, the police and IP authority of the Pudong New Area recently seized a group of 18 people in many fruit markets for counterfeiting trademark labels for imported fruit brands. The enforcement teams raided nine hideouts and found more than 2 million counterfeit labels. The price of imported fruits is usually many times that of domestically grown fruits of the same kinds.

Law ofice opens in Shenzhen
China Trademark & Patent Law Office, one of the nation's first international IP agencies, opened its Shenzhen subsidiary on July 14. Experts said the new company will use geographical advantages to serve the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao region, as Hong Kong is a leader in financing and technical service, while Shenzhen has a well-established innovation environment and many other cities in the Pearl River Delta focus on modern manufacturing.

Deal reached by Chery, Daimler
Chinese carmaker Chery has signed an agreement with auto giant Daimler about the usage of their similar brand names for new energy vehicles. Chery has been using the eQ trademark in China since 2014 and Daimler now has allowed it to use the name outside China. On the other hand, Daimler established the EQ brand last year in countries outside China and Chery has now granted it the right to use the name in China.
