Civil lawsuits involve 28 nations
Among all the civil IP lawsuits concluded over the past two years, 28 foreign countries have been involved, with the United States, France and Germany ranking the top three, according to a database of the Supreme People's Court. Over the same period, Guangdong, Beijing and Zhejiang were the top three regions in the country for the number of IP cases concluded. The average hearing period for IP infringement cases was 105 days.

Winter Olympics logos protected
The Beijing government will establish a protection mechanism for the 2022 Winter Olympics' logos, hold special campaigns against illegal use of the logos and organize training programs for Winter Olympics-related knowledge. This is according to regulations for the city's trademark and brand strategy, recently unveiled by the city's administration for industry and commerce. The regulations also called for joint enforcement operations in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

JAC Motors No 1 for auto patents
Hefei-headquartered JAC Motors has filed 11,644 patent applications, ranking No 1 among all domestic automakers, according to statistics from the China Automotive Technology & Research Center. It is also the only domestic automaker with more than 10,000 patent applications. The company now owns more than 9,600 patents. Its research and development investment counts for 3 to 5 percent of its revenue each year.

Nantong alliance to support ocean biz
An intellectual property alliance for the ocean engineering equipment and high-tech shipbuilding industries was recently founded in Nantong. The alliance has 47 founding members, including equipment manufacturers, shipbuilders, universities, research institutions and service agencies. It will carry out ocean engineering equipment industry patent analysis, help its members to industrialize their patents and offer financing, training and market operation services.

Jail time for online video game piracy
Five people were recently sentenced to between one and three years in prison by a local court for pirating a popular online video game. They acquired the source code of Legend of Mir 2 in late 2013 and created three games based on it. They accepted players' payment through online channels. The case was investigated under the supervision of the Ministry of Public Security.
