Park area shut over pigeon slaughter

A park in the city's downtown area has shut down its pigeon-feeding area amid complaints from visitors that it was in a state of disrepair and the man running it was secretly killing the birds and selling them as food. According to the complaints, the man was offering to sell the pigeons to park users for prices ranging up to 100 yuan ($15) for a fully developed bird. Reportedly, the service was popular among older park users, who said the birds were fresher and more nutritious than those sold in wet markets.
