Wozniacki ends Halep's hopes of No 1

Caroline Wozniacki ended Simona Halep's immediate hopes of taking over the world No 1 ranking by beating the Romanian 5-7 6-4 6-1 to reach the semifinals of the Aegon International tournament at Eastbourne on Thursday.

Halep could have ousted Angelique Kerber from the No 1 slot had she reached the final and the German lost to Britain's Johanna Konta in the quarterfinals.

Instead, the sixth-seeded Dane fought back from a set down to reach the last four.
