Court to hear telecom fraud case involving teen's death
The Linyi Intermediate People's Court in Shandong province will hold a hearing on Tuesday on a telecom fraud case involving the death of a teenager that sparked a national outcry last year. Xu Yuyu, a high school graduate in Linyi, died of a heart attack in August after losing 9,900 yuan ($1,450) of her university tuition to fraudsters. In December, a judicial guideline released by the central government stipulated that telecom and online swindlers should be given heavier penalties under 10 circumstances, including causing the death of a victim or cheating the disabled or the elderly.
