This Day, That Year

China Daily | Updated: 2017-06-21 07:23

Item from June 21, 1985, in China Daily: China is to build more harbors to solve serious port congestion, which is holding back the expansion of foreign trade.

The 7th Five-Year Plan (1986-90) calls for the speeding up of the construction of ports in major coastal cities.

China's ports can now handle only 120 ships a day, less than half of the 380 vessels lining up to unload.
