Yiwu leads counties in registrations for 4th year
Yiwu is home to 91,919 registered trademarks, topping all county-level prefectures in China for the fourth consecutive year, according to statistics from the national trademark authority. The number accounts for 6.74 percent of the provincial total. Over recent years, the Yiwu government has issued a series of policies to encourage local companies to pay more attention to brands and product quality.

Qingdao hosts training session for 900 people
The Qingdao industry and commerce administration held a training program focused on trademarks and brand building last week. The organizer invited officials and experts from the national trademark office, the trademark review and adjudication board and the World Intellectual Property Organization to give lectures. More than 900 people from local enforcement teams, companies and trademark agencies took part in the three-day program.

Committee founded to boost standardization
China's first provincial-level IP services standardization technical committee was founded in Shenzhen last week, aimed at promoting healthy growth in the IP service industry and international exchanges. The committee comprises 31 founding members, including government agencies, industry associations, leading companies and universities.

Medical industry alliance formed in Guangzhou
Supported by the Guangzhou intellectual property office and the Guangzhou arbitration committee, approximately 30 medicine companies, research institutions and service agencies in Guangzhou formed an alliance for IP protection. The alliance will help its members to cooperate and integrate medical research, education, production and service.

Forestry administration databases reveal growth
China owned more than 280,000 patents in forestry as of the end of last year, including 152,000 invention patents, according to statistics recently unveiled by the State Forestry Administration. There were 15,000 patents held by universities and nearly 5,000 by research institutions. Last year, the SFA built 15 forestry-related IP databases, including those for patents, geographic indications and new plant breeds, with a total of more than 660,000 entries.

Nationwide anti-piracy efforts recognized
More than 200 organizations and 243 individuals won awards from the National Copyright Administration for their efforts in fighting piracy last year. The awarded organizations include government departments, law enforcement teams, courts and media groups. The administration called for stronger copyright enforcement to defend the interests of rights owners.
