Indian women cash in on bank plan

NEW DELHI - More women in India have become part of the financial system with their own bank accounts after years of being excluded from the sector.

In India's highly patriarchal society, women were always kept away from financial matters, with banking and monetary activities being the sole prerogative of men.

But now the system appears to be becoming more equal, thanks to a scheme launched in 2014 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government.
