Taiwan office to hold briefing on cross-Straits relations
The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council will hold a media briefing in Beijing on Thursday on issues involving cross-Straits ties. On Saturday, Wu Den-yih was elected chairman of the Kuomintang, or the KMT. Wu said he expected the Communist Party of China and the KMT will continue to consolidate the 1992 Consensus and promote the institutionalization of peace across the Taiwan Straits. Since the Democratic Progressive Party took over the leadership in Taiwan last May, cross-Straits relations have worsened and official communications have been suspended.
