Turning research results into products

As China continues to promote the development of the biopharmaceutical industry, Shanghai's Zhangjiang National Innovation Demonstration Zone is looking into innovative models through which to boost the industry's development. How to transform lab research results into products has long been an important issue in the industry.

Shanghai Tin Tsz International Pharmaceutical has created an innovative platform for industrializing new drugs, increasing the efficiency of drugs' production and reducing the costs involved. It is also inspiring scientists to more actively participate in drug innovation.

Turning research results into products

With a total investment of 2.4 billion yuan ($350 million), the biopharmaceutical research achievements transformation base is located at the Kangqiao Industry Zone, which is part of Zhangjiang.

Covering an area of 270,000 square meters, the base has 20 plants and 80 production lines using the Good Manufacturing Practice standard. An open sharing platform integrates the functions of the entire industry chain, including new drugs' research and development, production and sales.

This move will encourage more businesses with useful research results to stay in Shanghai and form industry clusters, which will eventually promote the innovation capacity of the country and help the city become a global innovation center.

The base has been listed as one of the city's strategic emerging industry key projects. It also received authorization from the Chinese Academy of Sciences to become its biopharmaceutical research results transformation park.
