Dongjiang Lake offers aquatic adventures

Zixing, a county-level city in Chenzhou of Hunan province, will develop Dongjiang Lake tourism products to support the development of all-for-one tourism in the region.

Dongjiang Lake was listed as a 5A-level tourism destination in China by the National Tourism Administration in 2015.

The Dongjiang Lake scenic area is rich in forest coverage and natural, indigenous vegetation. Tourists can enjoy a wide variety of recreational options such as rafting, water slides and fishing in the scenic area.

One of the most remarkable natural spectacles in the Dongjiang Lake scenic area is the seemingly magical mist that forms just before sunrise and after sunset over Dongjiang Lake from April to November every year.

Dongjiang White-Water Rafting is one of the most attractive tourism activities in Zixing. The 28-kilometer rafting program, which will run between late April and early October, can receive more than 1,000 tourists per day.

Apart from promoting development of the core area of Dongjiang Lake, the city is also pushing for development of surrounding scenic spots such as the Tangxi Thermal Spring, Huilong Mountain and Swan Mountain to provide more recreational options for visitors.

The Zixing government joined hands with a local e-commerce business to introduce the first hand-drawn map of Dongjiang Lake before the Labor Day vacation to bring more convenience to tourists.

The map took half a year to design and highlights major attractions of Dongjiang Lake and famous shopping areas. Traffic, accommodation and local specialty information are also included in the map.

A total of 80,000 maps have been distributed to major hotels and hostels in the city.

"I have seen this type of map when I travel in other cities. I hope I can draw such a map to help visitors better explore the beauty of Dongjiang Lake," said Huang Min, head of the map design team.
