Shenzhen leads nation in patent filings and awards
Last year, Shenzhen ranked first among Chinese cities in the numbers of annual domestic invention patent applications, grants, valid invention patents, international patent applications and China Patent Awards, according to a report unveiled last week by the city's market and quality supervision commission. The report also noted that there were 80.1 invention patents for every 10,000 local residents, about 10 times the national average.

Zhejiang scammers busted selling fake foreign cosmetics
The police of Xuzhou announced on Tuesday that they investigated in a large international counterfeit trademark case involving more than 20 cities nationwide. The police received reports last October, and found a group making and selling online counterfeit cosmetic products through two factories in Zhejiang province. They seized 25 suspects and more than 20,000 illegal products with estimated potential value of 30 million yuan ($4.4 million). The suspects made the products in China and mailed them overseas where they sold the products to Chinese consumers, claiming the products were international brands.

Service station to link rights owners and management
A copyright service station was recently established in Dachang Hui autonomous county, where there is a cluster of movie and television studios. Founded by the Copyright Protection Center of Hebei, the station will provide copyright services including registration, evaluation, pledge, consultation and trade. Officials from the local copyright authority said the center is a new attempt for rights owners and copyright management agencies to share resources.

Customs has seized $94k in counterfeit goods this year
Beijing customs has seized more than 6,500 IP rights-violating products since the beginning of the year, with total value of 650,000 yuan ($94,300). The goods involved 41 famous brands in 14 categories, including shoes, bags, watches and electronics. The office has signed agreements with its Tianjin and Hebei peers to intensify regional cooperation. Last year, it seized more than 22,000 products in 1,800 batches, involving some 20 countries and regions.
