Blockbuster Fast 8 sets another record

The Fate of the Furious, or Fast 8, became the all-time top-grossing imported film in China on Saturday, with ticket sales of 2.44 billion yuan ($350 million) since its opening on April 14. The latest installment in the Hollywood film franchise the Fast and the Furious surpassed its predecessor, Furious 7, which took in 2.42 billion yuan in 2015, to top the chart. This is not the first time the blockbuster smashed a box office record in China. On its opening day, the film pulled in 386 million yuan, making it the biggest opening day ever in Chinese box office history, according to cinema website Maoyan.com.
