Cyclists set out with donations
A cycling team set out from Beijing on April 14 to send 500,000 used clothes and donations worth up to 10 million yuan ($1.45 million) to 500,000 children from poverty-stricken families in 28 provinces and cities of China. The trip will be completed by early 2018. Zhu Xisheng, secretary-general of China Children and Teenagers' Fund, one of the organizers and donors, said the event could promote the recycling of old clothes, environmental protection and poverty alleviation. He said the organization would cooperate with the Overseas Chinese Charity Foundation of China to establish 20,000 clothes' recycling boxes or offices in China this year, which are expected to provide 20,000 job opportunities for women from poverty stricken families.
