Item from April 27, 1992, in China Daily: Hunched riders round the corner in the Jinma Cup of the China Horse Racing Championship at the Huangcun racetrack in suburban Guangzhou, Guangdong province.

Yesterday's event marked a return of horse racing to China after an absence of more than 40 years.

China's equestrian industry has grown rapidly since the China Speed Horse Race Open was organized in Wuhan, Hubei province, in 2008. The event was the first step toward legalizing the sport.
