Man falls through suicide net, dies

A 46-year-old man, surnamed Sun, jumped to his death from a building at a residential compound in Nanjing on April 18, after rescuers spent more than 17 hours trying to persuade him not to commit suicide. Police and firefighters attended the scene after receiving reports that the man, a native of Yunnan province, had climbed out of a 24th-story window. They set up a net and air cushion, but Sun fell through the net and died at about 2 am. The reason behind the suicide is under investigation.
