Huang Dafa, from the village of Caowangba in Guizhou province, is hailed as a living incarnation of the ancient myth of yu gong - "the old man who moves mountains". The 81-year-old has spent 36 years persuading, and then leading, villagers to dig about 10 kilometers of irrigation channels into the vertical sides of three karst mountains.
