Society: A ceramic kiln that keeps old traditions burning

On chinadaily.com.cn

For centuries, Chinese ceramics were exported through Citong port in Quanzhou, Fujian province, the starting point of the ancient Maritime Silk Road. Ceramics produced in the province's Dehua county were among the most prized commodities of the trade route. The Yueji Kiln in Dehua was famous during the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties. Though electricity or gas-fired kilns have generally replaced wood-fired kilns, the Yueji Kiln has maintained the traditional way of firing and has become a major tourist site.
