Landslide hits search area
A landslide struck the location where rescuers were searching for dozens of victims of a landslide that took place earlier this month in western Indonesia, forcing authorities to halt the search operation and evacuate hundreds, a disaster agency official said. Sunday's landslide buried one person, two houses and two vehicles, as well as sweeping away two other people, the spokesman said. Four bodies have been recovered, he added.

Panic, damage after three strong quakes
A trio of strong earthquakes damaged buildings and caused panicked tourists to flee a popular dive resort near the Philippine capital on Saturday, officials and eyewitnesses said. There were no immediate reports of casualties from the quakes, the strongest of which hit the coast close to Mabini, a resort town south of Manila famous for its marine life and coral reefs. The first 5.5-magnitude temblor struck inland at 3:08 pm and was followed by a 5.9 quake just a minute later, according to a revised report by the US Geological Service. A 5.0 quake hit in the same region after another 20 minutes.

Tourist killed in balloon accident
A hot-air balloon hit a high-voltage transmission line and crashed Sunday near a popular tourist destination in central Turkey, killing a French tourist and injuring 20 other people, Turkish news agencies said. The state-run Anadolu Agency says several hot air balloons lifted off Sunday in Turkey's Cappadocia region to give tourists a scenic view of the historic site, and one hit the electric line during its descent. The Dogan news agency said adverse winds led to the crash.

Host presents news of husband's death
People across India are hailing the composure of a television news anchor who learned of her husband's death as she delivered a breaking news report on live TV. Supreet Kaur was reading the morning news bulletin for India's IBC24 channel in Chhattisgarh state on Saturday when a reporter called in a story about a fatal road crash. Although the reporter didn't name the three victims, Kaur realized her husband, Harsad Kawade, was among the dead from the details of the story.

PM promises aid for collapse survivors
Poland's prime minister and local authorities vowed on Sunday to provide financial help and other aid to survivors of an apartment building collapse that left six people dead.
Prime Minister Beata Szydlo came to the site of Saturday's collapse in the southwestern town of Swiebodzice and promised state aid to the survivors. Some children were orphaned in the collapse and five families were left homeless, Swiebodzice Mayor Bogdan Kozuchowicz said on Sunday.

Roman subway treasures on show
The long-delayed project to extend Rome's subway system has brought treasures of the past to the surface and allowed them to be showcased at one of the city's new subway stations. Rome city officials this week unveiled the Metro C archaeological exhibit, which features amphora, marble panels, coins and even peach pits dating back to the Roman era. The permanent exhibit will be on view as passengers descend into the three-story San Giovanni subway station, which is expected to open in 2018.
