Guardiola's gamble backfires at home

China Daily | Updated: 2017-03-10 07:27

MANCHESTER, England - Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola refused to concede the Premier League title to Chelsea after a 0-0 home draw with Stoke City on Wednesday left Antonio Conte's Blues with a 10-point lead atop the standings.

The Manchester City manager gambled by resting key players John Stones, David Silva and Raheem Sterling ahead of this weekend's FA Cup quarterfinal at Middlesbrough and next week's Champions League last-16, second-leg trip to Monaco.

The gamble backfired, with City only looking potent after Guardiola threw on Spain international Silva as a substitute with just under an hour gone.
