Chinese diplomat a social-media hit

By Xinhua | China Daily | Updated: 2017-03-05 13:09

UNITED NATIONS - A video of a Chinese diplomat's rebuttal of criticism of China's veto of a UN draft resolution on Syria has gone viral on the internet.

China and Russia voted on Tuesday against a Western-backed draft UN resolution to impose sanctions over the alleged use of chemical weapons in Syria.

Matthew Rycroft, Britain's permanent representative to the UN, blasted the veto as a move that "undermines confidence in the international community's ability to tackle flagrant violations of international law". His words were later echoed by senior US and Japanese diplomats.
