Xi's anti-poverty vision people-centric

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, CPC Central Committee General Secretary Xi Jinping has delivered several important speeches on poverty alleviation that not only clarify the basic strategy and specific measures to alleviate poverty, but also provide significant methodological guidance on how to lift people out of poverty.

Xi emphasized the policy of precise and targeted poverty alleviation, which aims to improve the efficiency of poverty alleviation work. All poverty alleviation work, including the poverty alleviation target and project arrangement, and the use of poverty alleviation funds, should be aimed at achieving the best results.

Stressing that poverty alleviation measures should be implemented according to local conditions, Xi said the different causes of poverty and impoverished people's actual situations should be taken into account by officials doing poverty alleviation work. The poverty alleviation targets and the resources used should be precise, he said, and emphasized the need for using all the poverty-alleviation resources for the betterment of the impoverished people in less developed regions.
