The more-than 40 million overseas Chinese living in the Belt and Road areas can also contribute to the economic development of our nation. Some of them have strong economic power, some know the cross-border business environment extremely well and some have rich connections and intellectual resources. If we can establish good ties with them, they can make a bigger contribution to the Belt and Road Initiative.

Qiu Yuanping, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and director of the State Council's Overseas Chinese Affairs Office

Voices from the two sessions

Young people play a very important role in the Belt and Road Initiative. We should raise awareness of the initiative among young people as soon as possible and send them to see other countries. Meanwhile, the government's overseas Chinese affairs bureaus, the various Chinese communities overseas and our consulates should all pay attention to promoting students' understanding of the world to better push forward the Belt and Road Initiative.
