Envoy hopes for 'constructive' ties with US administration

Beijing respects Washington's reasonable rights and interests in the Asia-Pacific region, and it hopes their relations in the region are "constructive", Chinese Ambassador to the United States Cui Tiankai said on Saturday.

Cui made the remark when asked how the two countries will interact in the region at a time in which President Donald Trump's Asia-Pacific policy remains unclear.

In response to some observers' concern about a potential trade war between the two countries, Cui said, "it is inevitable to see some disputes or friction" given the huge quantity of the trade.
