Pakistani women's team breaking tackles and making strides

By Associated Press in Islamabad | China Daily | Updated: 2017-02-21 07:31

They might have won only one match at the Asian Women's Rugby Sevens in Laos at the weekend, but for the Pakistan team which formed only a year ago it was a dream debut at an international event.

"First, it's a big deal that women are playing rugby," said player Mehru Khan. "And secondly, that we are getting a platform to come and perform to represent our country."

In a country of more than 200 million people, where women are believed to be half of its population, only men's cricket gets recognition.
