Nation to tighten laws on food, drugs

China will tighten regulations and revise standards on an extensive range of food and drugs, the national food and drug watchdog announced on Monday. The State Council recently issued national plans for food and drug safety for the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) period, calling for improved supervision and a strengthened safety net, according to the China Food and Drug Administration. The plans require whole-process control and whole-chain regulation of food and drugs, especially in relation to source control and risk prevention. The proportion of tested foods meeting quality standards should be at least 97 percent.
