Jersey school opens world's 1,000th Confucius center

By Wang Mingjie in London | China Daily | Updated: 2017-02-14 07:42

Jersey has deepened its links with China, with the British Crown dependency officially launching its first Confucius Classroom in Hautlieu School last week - the 1,000th such facility worldwide.

The status of Hautlieu, a secondary school, as a Confucius Classroom was accredited when President Xi Jinping made a state visit to the UK in October 2015, during which he and Prince Andrew unveiled a plaque for it.

Speaking at the official launch last week, Wang Yongli, minister counselor for education at the Chinese embassy, said, "In the days ahead, through the close cooperation between Hautlieu and the Confucius Institute, all boys and girls in Jersey will have lots of opportunities to explore the extensiveness and profoundness of Chinese language and culture."
