US F-35 fighter jets deployed
A number of F-35 fighter jets arrived at the US Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni in Yamaguchi prefecture, western Japan on Wednesday, marking the first deployment of such aircraft outside the United States despite safety concerns from some people in Japan. The F-35Bs are the Marines variant of the F-35 plane. The rest of the 16 F-35s set to be deployed at the base will arrive later.

24 kids killed when bus, truck collide
A truck loaded with sand collided with a school bus early Thursday, killing at least 24 young children in Uttar Pradesh, police said. At least two dozen other children were injured in the collision when the speeding truck collided head-on with the bus, said Javeed Ahmed, the state's top police official. The children, between the ages of 3 and 12, were studying at a school in the town of Etah.

George H.W. Bush, wife hospitalized
Former President George H.W. Bush and his wife, Barbara, remain hospitalized in Houston, where he is in intensive care for pneumonia and she is being watched after complaining of fatigue and coughing. A family spokesman said the 92-year-old former president went into the ICU on Wednesday and underwent a procedure on his airway. Bush was stable and resting comfortably at Houston Methodist Hospital.

Teheran tower collapses after fire
A high-rise building in Teheran engulfed by a fire collapsed on Thursday as scores of firefighters battled the blaze. Iran's state-run Press TV said people were believed to be trapped inside the rubble. Authorities told the state-run IRNA news agency just after the collapse that at least 38 people had been injured at the Plasco building, an iconic structure in central Teheran.
