Force feeding pigs unethical and unlawful

China Daily | Updated: 2017-01-05 07:44

TERRIBLE SHRIEKS have been heard coming from a station in Xiangtan county in Cental China's Hunan province. The sounds of distress are from pigs, which are being force fed slurry at the transfer station to gain an extra 10 kilograms in weight before being sold. Cnhubei.com commented on Wednesday:

It used to be that water was forced into pigs so they would gain weight. However, no matter whether the pigs are forced to swallow water or slurry, they are being tortured for money. It is both cruel and against the law to force feed pigs anything.

According to the Measures for the Implementation of the Regulation on Pig Slaughtering amended and adopted by China's Cabinet last year, no individual or unit is allowed to force any substance into a pig.
