Ex-Party chief gets life for bribery

A former Party chief of Zhumadian city was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday for bribery. The Xuchang Intermediate People's Court convicted Liu Guoqing of accepting bribes worth more than 68 million yuan ($9.77 million) when he held several posts, including deputy head of the provincial public security department. Liu accepted the bribes in return for helping others with promotion and construction projects, the court said. Liu said he will appeal the verdict.
