Shaken Kvitova 'lucky to be alive' after knifing

By Associated Press in Prague | China Daily | Updated: 2016-12-22 07:20

Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova was injured by a knife-wielding attacker at her home on Tuesday and had to have surgery on her left hand.

An operation that took three hours and 45 minutes showed the left-handed player's injuries were "serious", but there was "no reason to think she wouldn't be able to play tennis," said her spokesman, Karel Tejkal.

Tejkal added Kvitova will miss the Australian Open and a significant part of the upcoming season as she won't be able to fully train for at least three months.
