wins lawsuit against infringers
A recent ruling by the Shanghai Intellectual Property Court instructed two local companies to pay compensation of 3 million yuan ($431,717) to the German automaker BMW for violating its trademark rights and for unfair competition. Since 2008, the two defendants had used a BMN brand and designed trademarks similar to that of BMW, which were used for clothes, shoes and bags.

Bilingual search platform launched
Developed by the Science and Technology Department of the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, the first Chinese-Mongolian bilingual patent enforcement system in China recently went online. Enforcement officials will be able to search laws, regulations and patent statuses in both languages on mobile devices. The devices can also be used to take photos and videos, and to upload and download information.

First national robotics patent contest held
The first national robotics patent innovation and entrepreneurship contest was concluded last week. A project related to the core components and overall design of next-generation service robots won the top prize at the event. Starting in late May in Wuhu, the contest attracted 131 robotic projects nationwide, which involved more than 600 patents. Some 34 projects made it to the final round. Inventors of 15 projects have signed contracts with local Wuhu manufacturers to industrialize their inventions.

Court sees concluded caseload increase
The Guangzhou Intellectual Property Court received 4,597 cases and concluded 3,991 this year by Dec 7, according to the court's work report unveiled on Monday. The number of concluded cases increased by half from the same period last year. The concluded cases involved 591 million yuan ($85 million), 3.56 times the figure in the same period last year. More than half of the newly received cases were about patent disputes.
