Shangri-La Changchun continues charitable streak
Shangri-La Hotel Changchun in Jilin province is celebrating the ongoing Christmas season with a series of charity events.
The hotel hosted a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in its lobby and announced its 2017 Hougang Village Poverty Relief Project on Dec 2.
Nearly 200 guests from 12 countries participated in the cosplay-style charity party to raise funds, which will be used to rebuild underprivileged farmers' houses in Hougang village in Yushu, a city under the administration of the provincial capital, Changchun.
The hotel's Christmas turkey and ham hampers, as well as other festive goodies, are on sale from Dec 1 to 26 with proceeds going to the project.
The Changchun Foreign Affairs Office, Jilin University International Education Institute, Changchun Institute of Animation and China Daily also joined in.
The Christmas party and the 2017 project reflect the continuous charity efforts of the hotel.
The hotel raised some 65,000 yuan ($9,372) through a charity auction in March, which it combined with other sources of funding for a total donation of 200,000 yuan. All of the funds were spent on helping poor villagers to rebuild their houses.
Five families in the village benefited from the donation and moved into their new homes in October.
Named "Best Business Hotel" in Changchun in November by travel magazine Business Traveller China in the 2016 readers' poll, the hotel is located in downtown Changhun and has just completed a full renovation of its deluxe guestrooms and serviced apartments.
The award is determined by a poll conducted by the publication among its readership of frequent travelers based mainly in China.
The upgrade involved an array of advanced amenities, providing travelers with an enviable lifestyle in the city's commercial center, according to the hotel.
The hotel has installed advanced PM2.5 filtration equipment in its new guestrooms and apartments. A newly installed air conditioning system enables guests to adjust the temperature to their personal preference year-round, while in-room humidifying systems keep humidity at the optimal level.
